Alstom site of Savigliano

The Alstom headquarters in Savigliano (CN), with approximately 900 employees and an area of 323,000 square meters, is today one of the most important design and production centers of the Italian railway industry.

Founded in 1853, the Savigliano site is Alstom’s global center of excellence for suburban and regional trains (X’trapolis and Coradia Meridian) and for high-speed variable speed trains (Pendolino), a technology born here early 70s. He therefore has the responsibility, internationally, for defining and developing this type of product and the related offers.

The plant, which also makes use of the international experience of Alstom, is able to design and produce high-speed trains with variable weight (Pendolino), very high-speed trains (AGV) and regional trains (Coradia Meridian); design and build prototypes of suburban trains (X’trapolis).

Savigliano is also the home of Alstom’s maintenance business, whose activities take place mainly in the depots of railway operators throughout Italy. Trolley maintenance and overhaul services are performed in a dedicated department within the site.

Savigliano is one of the five Alstom sites in the world to host a specific construction department for the creation of prototypes (First Train Workshop) capable of producing and validating all the first trains before starting series production. The department hosts not only the production lines, but also all the resources that contribute to the realization of the project (Design, Industrialization, Validation, Supply Chain, Manufacturing Engineering, Business Excellence, Planning).

From the Savigliano site, 500 Pendolino trains were sold in 20 years, sold in 12 countries, from Italy to Finland, from the United Kingdom to Russia and, in collaboration with other Italian sites, over 400 trains of the Coradia / Minuetto family in service in Italy from Trentino to Sicily.
