The project, which inserts into the optoelectronic technology\u2019s context, <strong>will have significant consequences not only for the optoelectronic manufacturing, but for the society as a whole, since it will have an impact on the environment and the economy of the European Union.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Optoelectronics is the field of technology concerned\nwith electronic device application to the sourcing, detection and control of\nlight. It encompasses the design, manufacture and study of electronic hardware\ndevices that, as a result, converts electricity into photon signals for various\npurposes such as solar energy, telecommunications and general science. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nowadays, optoelectronic technologies are rapidly\nexpanding thanks to recent progresses in consumer electronic goods, solar\nenergy, LED and industrial lasers. At the same time, new challenges are\nemerging on this market, such as the request for higher customisation and\nindividualisation of demand together with the growing competitiveness from the\nAmerican, Chinese and Japanese markets, consequently requiring a dynamic adaptation\nand a constant upgrade of the production systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.iqonic-h2020.eu\/\">IQONIC <\/a>project stems from the collaboration among companies and research centres in 7 European countries \u2013 Finland, Germany, Greece, Italy, United Kingdom, Czech Republic and Switzerland \u2013 that, under the coordination of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fraunhofer.de\/\">Fraunhofer Institute<\/a>, aims at developing <strong>a scalable zero-defect manufacturing platform,<\/strong> and will guarantee the <strong>flexibility and sustainability of the production processes, <\/strong>covering the overall process chain of the optoelectronic components. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The advances brought by IQONIC will <strong>improve the<\/strong>\n<strong>quality and the yield of laser components\u2019 production<\/strong>, thanks to the\ngreater flexibility and the possibility of reconfiguration of the production.\nMoreover, IQONIC will have an economic and social impact since it will reduce\nproduction costs, thanks to the use of&nbsp; <strong>recycled\ncomponents and the optimisation of production<\/strong> <strong>processes<\/strong>, and it will\ncreate <strong>new jobs<\/strong> (about 400) thanks to the increase in profits given by\nthe new technologies and methodologies achieved within the project. Ultimately,\nIQONIC will have important effects also at the environmental level since the\nuse of recycled components will <strong>decrease waste production<\/strong>, notably of\nCritical Raw Materials as europium and yttrium.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On May 22nd-23rd the Politecnico of Milan (Italy) hosted the 2nd General Assembly of the IQONIC project .
